English Essay: “The Occult of the School” “The Significance of School in a Student’s Life: A Journey of Growth and Farewell”
School, a structure built with bricks and stones, comes to life through the vibrant energy of its students. As Shaila Jadhav, a meritorious student, delivered her speech during the valedictory function of our class, “Lavite Lala Hi Jashi Mauli Bala,” I couldn’t help but rejoice from within.
Dear friends, you are the ones who infuse life into me. Your laughter, playful dances, and moments of mischief make my heart beat with joy. I adore how you create a ruckus before the school day begins, only to line up in disciplined queues and recite prayers as soon as the school bell rings. The dedication and attentiveness with which you listen to your teachers and the meticulousness displayed by the headmaster, even in his moments of anger, fill these four walls with an indescribable atmosphere. Whether it’s national festivals, leaders’ birthdays, or school inspections, your enthusiasm is contagious.
I find immense pleasure in sweeping the classrooms, gathering papers and trash, and depositing them in the baskets, as if saying, “Feed me.” Your care for cleanliness is evident. Moreover, the manifestation of your good thoughts is reflected in the vibrant decorations adorning the glass boxes, colorful flags in the classrooms, academic notes, potted plants nurtured during work experience hours, and beautiful rangolis gracing the surroundings.
From 1st to 10th standard, you become an integral part of my life. Tears well up in my eyes as I witness your remarkable progress. The victories you achieve in inter-school competitions fill me with immense pride. Seeing our teachers receive the Adarsh Teacher Award brings me unparalleled joy. I am a silent observer of the manuscripts you create, the trips you plan, the social gatherings you organize, and the hard work you invest in them.
In the headmaster’s cabin, I witness the awards, shields, certificates, and the school’s progress graph adorning the walls. The plaque bearing the names of the meritorious students in the 10th exam exclaims, “Lucky me!” Such thoughts cross my mind.
However, there are some of your friends whom I don’t appreciate. Last year, they left indelible marks on me with their chalk, pencils, and even blades and crowbars. The pain I endured was unimaginable. While you eagerly anticipate vacations after exams, I find myself sinking into a melancholic state of loneliness. This field feels incomplete without your presence.Occasionally, weddings and gatherings bring a crowded atmosphere for various reasons. Yet, there is solace in the caretaker’s house within our premises. Limited space as it may be, the caretaker’s two children find joy in freely enjoying their meals during these two months. Their happiness brings a smile to my face.By the time you return from vacation, the purple tree in your yard blossoms with vibrant flowers. However, I remain untouched by its flavor. You see, a couple of crows have made their home on that tree for the past four or five years. Whenever you throw a stone at it in hopes of tasting the purple delicacy, they come swooping down, cawing in protest. I find great amusement in your futile attempts.
Nevertheless, as I witness the tears in your eyes during the farewell ceremony of class 10, my emotions stir deeply for a fleeting moment. For after the 10th exams, you will venture into a new world—one that marks your future. Your departure is inevitable for the sake of a bright tomorrow. And so, I silently offer my blessings and bid you farewell, with tear-filled eyes. Once again, I stand tall, clean, adorned with flags, and smiling to the gentle tunes of the clarinet, ready to welcome the next generation of torchbearers.
