English Essay: MY HOBBY | Speech on My Hobby
Everyone must have a hobby. If one does not have a hobby, one gets restless and bored and doesn’t know what to do in one’s free time. When I was younger, I too used to wonder what to do with my free time. Then my uncle introduced me to the hobby of stamp-collecting, and ever since I have never known what it is to be bored.
Once uncle came over for a visit during the Diwali holidays. I was 12 years old then. He gave me a stamp album and a few postage stamps as well. He explained to me how to paste the stamps neatly. He told me to look up books of Geography and History to know the significance of the images on the stamps. I thus learnt a little about our national leaders and also the leaders of many other countries. I came to know about various nations in the world and their capitals too.
I have quite a large collection of stamps now. Five stamp albums are full and the sixth one is almost complete. I have made friends with a few boys who are as interested in philately (stamp-collecting) as I am. Our discussions are very interesting. I am constantly on the lookout for rare stamps.
I also have a pen friend in Australia who is avid.
philatelist (stamp-collector) himself. Writing to him is a pleasurable experience. We exchange a lot of information.
As you can guess, the subjects I score the highest marks in are History and Geography.
